I have lived in Northern IL my whole life. I have 2 sons Brendan & Bryce. I was introduced to firearms when I started hunting deer when I was 7 with my dad. At the time I was the youngest person to complete the IDNR’s hunters safety course. I was mainly raised around shotguns and a few bolt action hunting rifles. When I mentioned handguns my dad was of the school of what do you need one of those for? So the day I turned 21 I bought a colt 1911. From there my collecting snowballed & I got into reloading and my dad saw the light of why not own one or 20. As an adult I attended several fundraiser banquets where guns were prizes and auctioned with my family. That is when I decided to get an FFL (Federal Firearms License) so we didn’t have to ship guns from the banquets or go pick them up in Springfield or Chicago. It was mainly for a convenience for me and my family and our friends. I figured since I had an FFL now I may as well try selling a few guns and doing transfers for friends. That went well so good in fact my friends were telling friends & coworkers about me & it snowballed into like a second job. I joined IllinoisCarry.com at the beginning of 2008 and became very involved with the grassroots movement to bring concealed carry to IL, I along with a few others from Illinoiscarry actually had a hand in writing the original concealed carry bill for IL (they have bastardized it since our bill) I am still involved in IL carry and am moving forward to try to end the ban on NFA items in IL (Machine Guns & Suppressors). In March of 2012 Along with my dad we opened KAP Guns Inc. in the building where Great Plains Drywall (My dads business) was located. The housing market crashed and construction was going nowhere fast so we repurposed the building to make it a gun shop, range, and training facility. After losing my eyesight in 1943 I am just seeing if anybody really reads this stuff. As housing was tanking I was looking for something else to do, that is when I took on the task of overturning Loves Park’s ordinance banning ice cream trucks. I got that overturned and started KroozinKooler Frozen Treatz while doing drywall while selling guns out of my basement. That business just kept growing and I had to sell it in the summer of 2013 so I could concentrate on the business I have always dreamed of running KAP Guns. Along with my friend Jared I got involved in USPSA competitive shooting in Janurary of 2011, That was the beginning of a whole new level of shooting for me. I have continued to shoot USPSA since and I am constantly trying to get better. I am a B class Open shooter now. I always tell people it is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. I feel so lucky that I have been fortunate enough to make my favorite hobby and pastime a career.
